How long it lasts, and what it costs

The question we get asked most, usually by a woman doing the sums before she commits. So here it is plainly.

  • 15 full serves in a pouch. Four heaped tablespoons a day makes a pouch a fortnight.
  • 30 if you run half serves, which makes it a month. Around half our women do exactly that. It is not a lesser way to take it, just a different rhythm, and you are in very good company.
  • Every figure on this page is per full serve. A half serve gives you half of each one, so you can do the maths in your head and take what actually suits you.
  • Most of our regulars settle on three pouches every two months. On subscription that is under $33 a week for the lot, and it arrives without you having to remember it.
  • This is replacing a shelf, not joining one. Most women find us with a cupboard of half used tubs they paid full price for and never finished. One pouch, one shake, one thing to think about in the morning.

Start wherever you like. You can move between a half serve and a full one whenever you want, and pause, skip or cancel your delivery any time.

Three pouches on subscription is $263.64 a delivery, every two months.

How it compares

How to take it

Four heaped tablespoons (55 g) into about 400 ml of water, milk or a milk alternative. Shake or stir. Two tablespoons is half a serve and gives you half of every figure, which stretches a pouch to 30 serves.

Most women take it first thing in the morning. It also works after training, between meals, or stirred into oats or yoghurt. Store resealed, cool and dry.

Who it is for

Women in perimenopause and beyond who are done with a cupboard of separate supplements. Dairy free and gluten free. Not vegan or vegetarian, the collagen is bovine.

The question we get most in the DMs

No, it is not a meal replacement.
That is the whole point.

You have probably done a shake diet before. Be honest about how it ended.

01

It worked, until you ate a meal.

Meal replacements only work while you are skipping meals. The day real food comes back, the routine is over. Think about it: how many women do you know who have kept a shake-for-dinner life going for years? Neither do we.

02

You are built to chew.

Without getting too nerdy: you have two main hunger hormones, one that says hungry and one that says done, and, you guessed it, both take their cue from food you chew. Start drinking your meals and they check out. Your body stops getting the message that food has arrived and behaves as if there is a shortage. The opposite of what you are trying to do.

03

Skip meals and you spend muscle.

Go short on food and protein, and the body takes what it needs from muscle first. Muscle is the tissue that keeps you strong and burns energy at rest. It is the last thing a woman over forty can afford to lose.

The DM we get every week

Them“But I don’t feel hungry after EssentialAF?”

UsAwesome, you’re welcome. Now eat anyway. Real food, chewed, because the hormones that tell you you are fed are waiting on that signal. A serve built on 30 g protein and 8 g fibre takes hours to digest, so give your meals a fair go before you decide you need the biscuits. Picking up what we’re putting down here?

That is the difference between building a new normal and chasing another quick fix. You cannot starve a body and then ask it to show up like a rockstar. Feed it first.

EssentialAF sits beside your meals, never instead of them. One serve a day covers the basics so the meals you do eat go further. Keep eating. Keep chewing. Keep your muscle.

Why it works

Give your body the basics.
Everything else follows.

Midlife is not a willpower problem. It is a supply problem. Cover the protein, fibre and minerals your body is asking for every day, and the rest of the day gets easier.

  1. Cover the basics in one serve

30 g complete plant protein, 3 g creatine, 5 g collagen, 8 g prebiotic fibre, 5 billion probiotics, magnesium, zinc, iron, chromium and vitamin D. Thirteen things you would otherwise buy separately, at doses printed on the pouch.

  2. Energy to move your body

Magnesium and iron contribute to normal energy metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass, the engine you move with. When the basics are covered, training stops feeling like a negotiation.

  3. Steady, not snacky

A serve built on 30 g protein and 8 g fibre digests slowly. That is simple physiology. What our customers say about the afternoon pantry raid is below, in their words, not ours.

★★★★★Finally a product that works!! After using first up in the morning for 1.5 weeks I had no sugar or salt cravings… this was the product my perimenopause body needed.Mel K. · Verified purchase

Walk it through

What each part does in your body, and why it matters to you.

Thirteen ingredients is a lot to make sense of on your own. So here is the whole formula as one story, in the order your body uses it.

01

Start with muscle. It is the engine.

30 g faba bean protein3 g creatine monohydrateVitamin D 2.5 µg

What it does. Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. Vitamin D contributes to normal muscle function. Creatine is the molecule your muscles use to regenerate energy for short, hard efforts, and 3 g is the daily amount most research on women uses.

Why it matters to you. Muscle is the most metabolically active tissue you own. From your forties it is quietly lost unless you feed it and use it. Keep it, and it keeps working for you at rest, in the gym and on the stairs.

02

Then energy. Real energy, not caffeine.

Magnesium 246 mgIron 6.5 mgL-carnitine 1 g

What it does. Magnesium and iron contribute to normal energy metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Magnesium also contributes to normal muscle function. L-carnitine is the carrier that moves fatty acids into your mitochondria, the part of the cell that makes energy.

Why it matters to you. Low iron and low magnesium are two of the most common gaps in midlife women, and the most common reason a workout feels impossible at 6am. Cover them daily and moving your body stops being a negotiation.

03

Then how your body handles food.

Chromium 50 µg8 g prebiotic fibre30 g protein

What it does. Chromium contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism, the way your body processes carbohydrate, fat and protein. Protein and fibre are digested slowly, so a serve is released over hours, not minutes.

Why it matters to you. A morning built on 30 g protein and 8 g fibre sets a different tone for the whole day than a morning built on toast. Our customers describe the difference in their own words in the reviews; we let them say it.

04

Then the gut, where the rest gets absorbed.

Acacia fibre 4.5 g + inulin 3 gBacillus coagulans 5 billion CFUL-glutamine 1.9 gDigestive enzymes 50 mg

What it does. Fibre contributes to regular laxation. Acacia and inulin are prebiotic fibres, the food your gut bacteria live on. Bacillus coagulans is a spore-forming probiotic that survives stomach acid to reach the gut. Glutamine is the preferred fuel of the cells lining your gut, and the enzyme blend helps break down protein, fat and carbohydrate.

Why it matters to you. Every other ingredient on this page only works if it is absorbed. A gut that is fed, regular and settled is the difference between taking nutrients and actually getting them.

05

Then the finish: skin, hair, nails, immunity.

Zinc 12 mg, 100% RDI5 g bovine collagen peptides

What it does. Zinc contributes to normal immune function and to the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails. Collagen is the structural protein your skin, joints and connective tissue are built from, and 5 g a day is a full daily dose, not a sprinkle.

Why it matters to you. When intake drops or stress rises, hair, skin and nails are the first to show it. This is the part of the formula that looks after the parts other people notice.

What it adds up to

One serve in the morning covers the basics. The basics give you the muscle to keep, the energy to move it, a steadier day, a gut that absorbs what you give it, and the finish on the outside. That is the whole idea. Nothing to piece together, nothing to remember.

You are not failing at eating less. You are trying to do it tired, hungry and under-nourished, which nobody manages. Start with the basics and watch how much easier the rest gets.

Eating less?

Your body still has a shopping list.

Smaller meals mean smaller nutrient intake. This is what one 55 g serve puts back, and what you would have to eat to get the same from food.

30g proteinProtein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.As food: about 5 large eggs, around 370 calories.
3g creatineThe molecule your muscles use to regenerate energy for short, hard efforts. As food: about 650 g of raw lean steak, around 850 calories. Every day.
8g fibreFibre contributes to regular laxation. Vanilla gives 7 g.As food: about 3 cups of cooked broccoli, around 100 calories.
6.5mg iron54% RDI. Iron contributes to normal energy metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. As food: about 250 g of cooked lean beef, around 520 calories.
246mg magnesium77% RDI. Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and normal muscle function. As food: a 45 g handful of pumpkin seeds, around 250 calories.
12mg zinc100% RDI. Zinc contributes to normal immune function and skin, hair and nails. As food: the same 250 g of lean beef covers this too.
5g collagenThe structural protein your skin, joints and connective tissue are built from. A full daily dose.As food: a large mug of slow-cooked bone broth, around 100 calories.
182caloriesPer full serve, Chocolate. Vanilla is 184. Low sugar, 1 g per serve. As food: half a slice of café banana bread is about 220 calories.

Bought as food, that shopping list runs to around 2,200 calories a day, and that is with the beef doing double duty. One serve of EssentialAF is 182.

Figures per 55 g serve as printed on the Chocolate panel; Vanilla differs slightly and both panels are below. Food equivalents are approximate, from Australian Food Composition Database averages, and are there to show scale, not to replace those foods. Health claims apply as part of a healthy diet involving a variety of foods. EssentialAF is not a meal replacement.

The serve, and the maths

One pouch. Two ways to run it.

Full serve · 4 heaped tablespoons
15serves per pouch

55 g. Every figure on this page is per full serve. This is what I take, and it is what the doses are built around.

Half serve · 2 heaped tablespoons
30serves per pouch

Two tablespoons is half a serve, so half of every number. Around half our women run it this way, and a pouch lasts a full month.

Both are a proper way to use it. Plenty of women start on two tablespoons and build up. Mix into about 400 ml of water, milk or a milk alternative, first thing in the morning or after training.

Just as important

What is not in it.

No fillersNot one gram of cheap bulking agent making the serve look bigger than the formula.
No artificial coloursThe colour comes from real cocoa and vanilla bean. Nothing else.
No artificial flavoursNatural flavours only, which is why it tastes like food and not like a lolly.
No artificial sweetenersNo sucralose, no aspartame, no acesulfame K. Monk fruit and thaumatin instead.
Low sugarVerified on the panel. 1.2 g per serve in Chocolate, 1.5 g in Vanilla.
No proprietary blendsEvery ingredient and its exact dose printed on the label. Check our maths.

Read it yourself

The whole panel. Nothing hidden.

Exactly what is printed on the pouch. Chocolate and Vanilla differ slightly, which is why you will see small ranges quoted.

The question we get most

Where is the iron?

You will find iron in the nutrition panel, 6.5 mg in Chocolate and 5.6 mg in Vanilla, but not in the ingredient list. That is not an oversight. It occurs naturally in the faba bean protein that forms the base of the formula, so it is declared in the panel rather than the ingredient list.

The minerals we do add are magnesium citrate, zinc citrate and chromium picolinate. Those are the three you will see listed.

The honest answers

Questions worth asking.

How much is a serve?

Four heaped tablespoons, about 55 g, is a full serve, and every figure we publish is per full serve. Two tablespoons is half a serve and gives you half of everything, which stretches a pouch to 30 serves. Both are fine, and around half our women use the half serve.

Is it a meal replacement?

No. You are designed to chew, which starts digestion and tells your body food has arrived. EssentialAF sits beside meals you actually chew, it does not stand in for them.

Can I take it while eating less?

Yes. It is a food, and it is built to cover the protein, fibre and minerals that fall away when meals get smaller. It is not a sole source of nutrition, so keep eating real meals alongside it. If you are on a prescribed medicine, talk to your GP or dietitian about your overall intake.

Is it vegan?

Dairy free, yes. Vegan, no. The collagen is bovine, chosen for the type I and III peptides and a clean allergen panel. Everything else is plant based. If you are vegetarian, this one is not for you, and we would rather say so plainly.

Will creatine make me bulky?

No. 3 g is a daily maintenance dose, not a bodybuilder loading protocol. The scales may nudge up slightly at first, that is water moving into your muscle cells, and it settles.

Why might I feel bloated at first?

Inulin feeds your gut bacteria quickly, so a gassy first week can be normal while the microbiome adjusts. It usually settles with daily use. Sensitive gut? Start on two tablespoons. If it does not settle, talk to your GP.

What about allergens?

Contains: nil declared allergens. Two things worth knowing: it is packed in a facility that also handles milk, soy, tree nuts and fish, and the collagen is bovine.
